Karel Klein is an architect and co-director of Ruy Klein with David Ruy. Investigating craft, precision, and the evolution of design expertise in the digital age, Karel continues to foreground the persistence of the designer in contemporary culture. Previously at The Universitsy of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Design and Columbia University GSAPP, she currently teaches graduate design studios at The Pratt Institute where she continues her research into ornamentation relative to a general economy of energy.

Karel has been the project architect for numerous award winning projects and has been widely published in prominent journals such as GA Houses, New York Times Magazine, and Architectural Record. In addition to degrees in architecture, she also received a degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
